UPN200

A sculptural lamp born from the reinterpretation of a standard steel profile. Sandblasted and varnished, it reveals the raw materiality of the metal while introducing a luminous gesture. A strong and silent presence, somewhere between industrial strength and domestic poetry.
For this project, I chose to explore an industrial standard: the extruded steel profile, commonly used in construction. By focusing on its formal potential, I sought to divert its original function to create a domestic object, both sensitive and sculptural. The UPN 200 lamp was born from this shift. It embraces the geometric rigor of the profile and reveals its graphic strength. Sandblasting and varnishing the steel highlights its raw materiality, its striations, its density, while ensuring lasting protection. The addition of a dimmable S14D bulb brings a soft, adjustable light that contrasts with the industrial robustness of the profile. A 3D-printed socket cover introduces a contemporary, precise gesture, while the deep blue paint creates an unexpected, almost poetic dialogue with the exposed metal. This project questions the boundary between standard and singularity, between technical object and intimate piece. The entire production was designed with a local approach: sourcing and manufacturing were carried out in Belgium and nearby regions, reinforcing a responsible and grounded process. UPN 200 invites a shift in perspective. A simple structural element becomes a source of light, a fragment of architecture resting on a table or a ledge, revealing the quiet beauty of industrial standards.
