LOTOA
A lightweight, quick-to-deploy poncho designed to encourage cycling in all weather conditions. Inspired by fluid gestures and the urban rhythm, it folds discreetly beneath the saddle. It protects without restricting, extending the freedom of movement so central to Ahooga’s vision.
Choosing the bicycle as a daily mode of transport is a committed act, almost intimate. It is a gentle yet determined response to the climate emergency. And yet, one obstacle remains: rain. Who hasn’t hesitated to get on a bike under a threatening sky? To accompany the launch of Ahooga’s foldable electric bike MAX, I imagined an accessory designed to complete and enhance the cycling experience: a rain poncho made to fit any type of bike. This device reflects Ahooga’s identity: fast, efficient, and versatile. It unfolds in seconds from its discreet storage space under the saddle, without interrupting the ride or breaking the rhythm. Designed as a natural extension of the cyclist, it protects both body and belongings, helping the rider stay dry, light, and confident. The choice of textile is essential: hydrophobic, dense enough to resist wind, yet soft and silent to avoid any unpleasant rustling. Its colors and textures, inspired by rainy forests, echo natural elements and bring a sense of calm and harmony to the object. The hood, often a source of discomfort or reduced visibility, has been redesigned to offer effective protection while maintaining a clear field of vision, whether or not the rider wears a helmet. Beyond simple protection, this poncho rethinks the relationship between cyclist and bicycle. It anticipates the gesture, becomes a daily companion, and encourages a freer, more spontaneous way of riding. Safety is also reinforced with integrated reflective elements, essential in urban settings, especially at night or in poor weather conditions. With this project, I aim to embrace the rain rather than fear it. An accessory designed to accompany the bicycle, extend the freedom of riding, and support daily use in all conditions.
